How do you hang a mirror?

Hanging a mirror may seem like a simple task, but proper preparation really makes all the difference. Whether you’re hanging a small mirror above the sink or a large full-length mirror in the hallway, these handy steps will ensure your mirror hangs securely and straight on the wall.

Think carefully about where you want to hang the mirror. Consider the height and symmetry in relation to the furniture or the wall. A level or measuring tape will help you align everything nicely.

A common and clever tip is to use painter's tape to mark the hanging points. Turn the mirror over and apply a piece of tape tightly over the wall hooks or hanging eyes on the back.

Use a pencil to draw a small dot on the tape, right in the center of the mounting holes for the wall hooks. This will mark the exact spots where the screws will go into the wall.

Remove the tape from the mirror and stick it to the wall where you want to hang the mirror. Use a level to make sure the tape is straight. Double-check this—nothing is more annoying than a crooked mirror.

Next, use the dots you previously marked on the tape to make a mark on the wall.

Drill a small hole in the wall at the marked points. Insert the wall anchors into the drilled holes. Then screw the screws into the anchors. Leave the screws protruding about half a centimeter so that the mirror can be easily hung over them.

Now you can hang the mirror over the screws. Check to make sure it's securely hung and that it's still level. Done!
